Core Values - These Principles We Will Not Compromise
Excellence "Do the best you can, with what you have, right now." - Teddy Roosevelt
When a task of any sort is undertaken an individual must wield all energy and focus available in order to achieve beyond one's own expectations. Anything less than your best is unacceptable. After all, are you just dropping in or are you going for
the barrel?
Respect "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. " - Dr. MLK Jr.
The world population and the surfing populace within continue to grow at exponential rates. We as surfers bear the heavy burden of tolerance and acceptance. Along with this comes the obligation of sharing with and educating those new to our culture and way of life. Leading by example is the only way to convince others that their existence in the line-up can make a positive impact. Remember, share the stoke; everyone is entitled to the stoke of surfing.
Balance "You must train the mind and the body, for if you prepare one and not the other you are but half a man." - Taoist Proverb
Life can seem pretty harsh sometimes; sections can seem not makeable...If our mind and spirit are not in tune with our body and intellect, as was intended, then we will forever be distracted from our true goals, passions, and potentials.
Integrity "The truth itself is not believed from those who often have decieved." - Anon
Truth and honor are undeniable traits aspired to by every Gold Coast Grom. When action is decided, the follow through is what is remembered. How many people do YOU know that have broken their word just once? How do you feel about those you know who have always been true to you and to themselves? We are the Gold Coast Groms.
Fun "The faster I go out there, the slower things seem to happen. " - Gerry Lopez
Why do you surf? No wave rider would say anything other than it's "the feeling"; it's that completely unexplainable sensation within. The consciousness of nature's life coupled with our own to create the euphoric awareness that only we can know. Always remember why you became a surfer - "the tow-in surfer feels the same excitement as a child that catches their first wave."
